Living in the Pandemic

It is Day 6 of extreme social-distancing for me. I’m looking at the long weeks ahead and wondering (like many of you) how we’re going to get through this. We have an emergency in Ontario, and in many other parts of the world. If you’re reading this, you are very likely in a similar situation. How are you coping, friends? I am personally on an endless re-watch of The Untamed. I will never stop loving that show. I’m writing what I can. I’m staying in touch with my friends through email and twitter. I’m waiting for the sun to come out.

I’m not going to talk much about COVID-19. You all already know what to do. Follow the guidelines of your local public health agency. Stay home. Go out only for essential stuff like groceries and medicines. Wash your hands. Read books. Call your friends. Tell your elderly relatives to practice extreme social-distancing. It will be several months – maybe more than a year – before a vaccine is readily available. Meanwhile, our only hope to flatten the curve is to just – avoid other humans.

It’s easy for some folks to say, oh, this is a great time to stay home and be productive. Those folks possibly don’t have kids to take care of while schools are closed, or elderly relatives to worry about, or lost jobs/income.

So I’m here to tell you it’s okay not to be productive. Just do the best you can to follow local health guidelines, and stay in a safe mental and physical space. Do something every day that makes you happy, whether it’s eating ice cream or watching Netflix or calling your friend or reading a comic or listening to opera. We’ll get through this.

Here are two cute bunnies.
