The Shadowless at The Novel Fox SHORTS’ Anthology I

anthology-NovelFoxI’m pleased to announce that my story The Shadowless has been published by The Novel Fox SHORTS’ Anthology I. You can read samples of the eight science fiction and fantasy stories in this Anthology right here. The authors include Dominic Dulley, Gerri Leen, T.D. Edge, Shawn Scarber, Ernesto Pavan, Peter White, and Shane Halbach. (And yes, I like using the Oxford comma.)

The Shadowless was critiqued through my crit group and emerged much the better for it; many thanks to my crit buddies Ariella, Charlotte and Erika. The story is set in a far-future, alternate version of Marrakech, a city I love. Marrakech is one of the major cities of Morocco and well worth a visit. Although the city of my story bears little physical and NO political resemblance to the actual city, I was inspired by the beautiful landscape and the colorful honeycomb of souks around Jemaa el-Fnaa. This is evident from the first line of my story:

Nissa wove through the narrowing streets of the labyrinthine spice market of Marrakech, her shadow Juju perched on her shoulder.

Congratulations! I haven’t read your story yet, unfortunately, but I think it’s the next one. 🙂

Rati, I read your story last night. It’s lovely! Especially the ending lines. I think it might be my favorite of your published works =) The “shadows” reminded me of the daemons in Phillips Pullman’s Golden Compass trilogy, but with a cyberpunk twist. Congratulations!

Oh, and Oxford Comma all the way.

    • Thanks Vanessa! I’m so glad you liked it. 🙂 That’s an interesting thought about the ‘shadows’. Replace the AI with a daemon, and the story is essentially the same. (PS – I’m sure The Novel Fox would appreciate a review, if you are so inclined.)
