News! I received the ARCs (Advance Reader Copies) of Night of the Raven, Dawn of the Dove. I got so excited when I received this mysterious box from an unknown sender, I made an ARC unboxing video. They are beautiful and I can’t wait for them to be in reader hands. There is a gorgeous map. With monsters! And a glossary at the end that was almost as much fun to write as the book itself. If you fancy reading a medieval Indian fantasy featuring a plucky guardswoman, a handsome monk, and an abundance of hungry monsters, then this one’s for you.
In other news, I’m delighted to report a new novelette sale to Lightspeed Magazine: a supernatural detective story featuring an inept messenger of death, a dashing afterlife policeman, an evil villain, an unreliable ghost, a missing soul, and a Coffee House with a delectable menu. I’ll post the link here when it’s published.
I have kind of, sort of, started writing again after a gap of many months. It is a contemporary fantasy novel based in my hometown Lucknow. In the latest scene I wrote, one of the characters is fighting with a hag over a packet of potato chips. I am unsure how I got here, but there it is. This book is all about food. I am a very food-motivated person, haha. And so much of my time is spent on food: the procurement, the preparation, the cooking, the serving, the cleaning. And, of course, the eating, without which none of the above would be tenable.
Part of it may also be because I spent several months last year unable to eat very much. Loss of appetite was one my sadder Covid symptoms. However, I am now happily past that. And there will be many, many food scenes in this book. I shall take great vicarious pleasure in my characters’ snacks, nibbles, and repasts. 🙂
