I have a couple of short story acceptances to report, WOOT! So, in chronological order:
Hatyasin was accepted by Abyss & Apex, a highly acclaimed quarterly speculative fiction magazine edited by Wendy S. Delmater. My story is scheduled for publication in October 2014. I look forward to reading the stories they publish every quarter, and I’m delighted mine will be among them! They are closed to fiction submissions until 2015, but you can take a look at their guidelines here. They’ve just published their fiftieth issue, which I think is awesome.
Charaid Dreams was accepted by Apex Magazine, a Hugo-nominated monthly science fiction and fantasy magazine edited by Sigrid Ellis. The story will be out some time in 2015. My first pro sale! They will re-open for submissions only on 1 September 2014, but meanwhile you can check out their guidelines here and read the current issue here. You can not only read the stories, but comment on them too, which is cool.
It is, of course, a coincidence that both these delightful magazines have the word ‘Apex’ in their names. Apex, which means summit, or peak, or acme, or pinnacle, or highest point. Abyss, of course, is an antonym of apex. Medically speaking, apex is also the lower pointed end of the human heart opposite the space between the cartilages of the fifth and sixth ribs.
And that is truly something I did not know before I googled it.
Congratulations on the stories to be published, Rati..

Hi Rati,
Just sent you an e-mail congrats on the Apex sale (which I saw on the Critters Woohoo!) but I wanted to congratulate you on the Abyss and Apex sale as well. They’re both great venues! I particularly love Apex and am looking forward to that story as I haven’t seen it before. It’s exciting to watch people I’ve “met” on Critters launching their writing careers! From reading your work this past year, I knew that you would be going far, and fast.

Thank you Vanessa! I’ve found Critters dead useful and interesting too for the sheer variety of opinions and feedback. I don’t know about ‘far and fast’. 🙂 As long as I can keep reading, keep writing, and keep my sanity too, that’s all I ask!
