I’m pleased to report that my short story “This is not what I wanted for my birthday” is now live at AE – The Canadian Science Fiction Review. AE is the only SFWA-recognized Canadian science fiction market, and if you haven’t checked it out yet, I highly recommend you visit and read the eclectic mix of stories up there.

I asked AE editor D.F. McCourt some time ago about the unusual name of the magazine, and this is what he had to say:

“We settled on the name The Canadian Science Fiction Review pretty early on as we wanted to present a serious literary venue for just that, Canadian Science Fiction. Among the three founders of the magazine, however, there was some concern about the name being too bland for the genre. I mean, The Malahat Review works just fine for literary fiction, but it’s not the sort of title under which you expect to find robots, illicit alien love, and explosions.

We had the idea of making The Canadian Science Fiction Review a subtitle and putting something snappier before it. The title AE was put forth as half tribute to A.E. Van Vogt and half sly nod at the mathematical term ‘Almost Everywhere’, which is a good descriptor of the locales where stories we like take place.”
