Isn’t that a beautiful title? You are not allowed to say no. Night of the Raven, Dawn of the Dove is the name of my very first YA Fantasy novel to be published in Summer 2022 by Wednesday Books. I’ve mentioned this book here a few times, haven’t I? I’ve said that I love it, that I hope I get to share it with the world some day. I feel very very lucky that this particular dream can come true, that one day this book will be a reality I can hold in my hand and offer to you.
Here is the official announcement:
I am deeply excited at the prospect of working with Mara Delgado-Sánchez on not just one, but two books. Whispers: I haven’t actually written the second book yet, but I have the heart of it, I think. I just need to give it flesh and bone and blood and guts.
I started writing Night of the Raven, Dawn of the Dove in March 2020 – at the start of the lockdown, yes – but the story has been inside me a lot longer than that. I tell everyone it’s a medieval Indian fantasy full of monsters and mayhem. But it’s not only that. It’s about being broken and crushed, and rising up again like a phoenix. It’s about the worst kind of betrayal, and the sweetest kind of love. There is bloodshed, there are kisses, there is revenge, there is pain. Oh, and food-as-love. Because food always, always manages to sneak into my stories.
Have I hooked you yet?
Congratulations!!! 😀 … and yes, it’s a bloody brilliant title 😀 … but 2022? That’s ridiculous.

Ah, a lag time of 1.5 – 2 years between acceptance and publication is pretty normal!

I’ve gone a few rounds with trad publishing and I was no more enamoured of their publishing schedules than I am now … even moreso now that we all are aware of exactly how quickly that turnaround, when you take out all the bloviating, is.
